Diabetes

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by decreased ability or complete inability of the body to utilize carbohydrates.Carbohydrates are normally broken down within the body in the form of glucose, the body's main energy source.Insuline a harmone produced in the pancreas,is essential for the conversion of glucose into energy.

Symptoms

The major symptoms of diabetes are excessive thirst ,frequent urination, increased appetite, and loss of weight.Other symptoms though less characteristics of the disease are muscle cramp, impired vision, itching of the skin and poorly healing wounds.

Treatment

Generally a well balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is one of the most important factors in the control of diabetes. Some authorities find that the diabetic is unable carotane into vitamin A,while others deny such findings. It is advisable, however, for the diabetic to ingest at least the recommended dietry allowance of vitamin A from a noncarocate source, such as fish liver oil.Because the diabetic, especially when on insulin therapy loses vitamin C more readily than does the nonbiabetic, daily supplementation of vitamin C  is necessary.
